5 points remain the key to solving the problem in Myanmar
His Excellency Kong Phok, Spokesman for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits on the evening of November 10, reiterated that the Myanmar issue is still complex and difficult and needs time to resolve. However, Kong Phok stressed that the five-point agreement reached by ASEAN leaders remains the cornerstone for resolving the issue in Myanmar.
So far, Myanmar’s political crisis has not been resolved, while the five-point unanimous agreement has not been fully implemented.
At a press conference on November 10, His Excellency Kong Phok, Spokesman for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits, said that the Myanmar issue was still complex and difficult and needed time to resolve.
[All I can say at this time is that the five-point unanimous agreement remains the cornerstone of resolving the issue in Myanmar]. Mr. Kong Phok continued to say this in front of many local and foreign journalists.
His Excellency Kong Phok, spokesman, said that Cambodia’s performance as chair of ASEAN for more than 10 months has made great progress. Such assessments are based on complexity as well as the involvement of multiple stakeholders.
At the same press conference, the Cambodian official also expressed hope that ASEAN would be able to issue a highly effective document to contribute to the implementation of the five-point agreement.
His Excellency Kong Phok, due to the progress of the situation in Myanmar, did not meet the expectations of Cambodia, as the chair of the 2022 ASEAN Summit, continued to invite non-political positions from Myanmar, and Myanmar did not send a representative. At this point, the spokesman for the ASEAN Summit claimed that despite the absence of the Myanmar representative, the chairs and the Myanmar flag were still reserved.
