PM Sar Kheng Receives UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety

Samdech also took this opportunity to briefly inform the traffic safety situation in Cambodia, especially in the past, the Royal Government of Cambodia has strived to achieve a large number of results related to traffic safety work, with specific implementation mechanisms and two main actors. Importantly, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport have worked together to strengthen road traffic safety with mechanisms from the ministry to the provincial level.
Samdech stated that Cambodia has tried to reduce the mortality rate and injury rate due to traffic accidents, however, there are still some challenges that must continue to be addressed, including some tasks related to the continued development of Relevant laws and regulations, as well as the provision and installation of technical equipment for traffic safety inspections and road infrastructure improvements, in order to contribute to the improvement of inspection management. On traffic safety.
Samdech also informed that most of the traffic accidents in Cambodia are caused by two major factors, the first is the human factor, the second is the road infrastructure, especially the technical issues related to the installation of other signs. . He added that the Royal Government of Cambodia has also continued its efforts to develop road infrastructure, especially the construction of expressways and highways with multiple lanes and national roads, as well as connecting roads from national roads to each province, contributing to facilitating travel. He also informed HE Jean Todt that in order to continue to improve traffic safety management, two important tasks must continue to go hand in hand, the first is to strengthen law enforcement and the second is to continue Raise people’s awareness and respect for the rule of law in order to reduce the accident rate as much as possible.
In response, HE Jean Todt thanked Prince Kralahom and informed him that this was his second visit to Cambodia, the first being ten years ago. In the last ten years, HE affirmed the vision of Cambodia’s development and the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to address traffic safety issues.
His Excellency agreed and supported Samdech Krala Hom’s statement that solving the traffic safety problem really requires the participation of the people through education, awareness and law enforcement. His Excellency stated that overall, the Royal Government of Cambodia has been on the right path in line with the United Nations approach.
He reaffirmed his continued contribution to the Royal Government of Cambodia in improving traffic safety, along with his other partners under the United Nations, by encouraging and offering some suggestions. Contribute to improving road safety as well as reducing the rate of traffic accidents, especially to increase the use of public transport to reduce the means of transportation on the road, mobilize the participation of the private sector. .
In response, Prince Kralahom thanked the UN Special Envoy for Road Safety and thanked him for his efforts to reduce traffic accidents in Cambodia.
Samdech also informed His Excellency that Samdech is also leading the review and revision of some legal documents related to work to strengthen traffic safety management.
