Samdech Techo Hun Sen and US President Joe Biden Meet and Discuss Bilateral Work
Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of Saturday, November 12, 2022, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Mr. Joe Biden, President of the United States of America, paid a courtesy call and discussed bilateral work.
His Excellency Joe Biden arrived in Cambodia this Saturday morning. His Excellency is in Cambodia now to attend the ASEAN-US Summit and the ASEAN-East Asia Summit.
The meeting was also attended by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bulga, King of Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia. His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore. His Excellency Prayuth Chan Ocha, Prime Minister of Thailand. His Excellency Pham Ming Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam. His Excellency Phorn Kham Viphavan, Prime Minister of Laos. His Excellency Federian Marcos, President of the Philippines, and His Excellency Tan Sri Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, representing the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Myanmar, on the other hand, has no representatives. ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Chok Hoy was also invited to attend the meeting.
By 2022, ASEAN-US relations will be 45 years old. The United States has provided more than $ 12.1 billion in economic, health and security development assistance to allies and partners in Southeast Asia, including ASEAN members, since 2002. During the same period, the United States provided more than $ 1.4 billion in humanitarian assistance, including disaster relief, life-saving assistance, emergency food aid, and assistance to refugees throughout the region.
The United States and ASEAN benefit from a wide range of trade and economic ties. ASEAN represents the world’s fourth largest market, and the United States is ASEAN’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with US trade in goods and services with ASEAN totaling about 441. $ 7 billion in 2021. There are more than 6,200 US companies operating in ASEAN, and by 2020, 630,000 US passengers will spend more than $ 1.3 billion in Southeast Asia.
